Community Chest

BWB is partnering with Community Chest to help offset the costs of fencing, seeds, water, and materials needed to construct large horizontal composters.  The $250 the community was able to provide this organization will greatly help their expansion of garden based programs.

Community Chest is located in Virginia City, Nevada.  We provide a variety of services to Storey County including a food closet, thrift store, counseling, before and after school care, and more.  One of the projects we are working on is an educational garden located next to the thrift store.  We have a simple 4 raised bed garden that is in need of fencing to keep the critters from eating the veggies as they did last year.  We are also creating a community composting center where locals can drop off their organic waste so it can be turned into rich soil. Vegetables will be given to the food closet to distribute to local families, and recipients of food will be invited to work in the garden.
